What inspired you to get into medicine?
Being raised on a family dairy farm helped lead me to the nursing profession. At a young age, I learned how to work as a team member, to take pride in the work I accomplish and to respect the life cycle. During a high school internship at at Astera, it reiterated that I wanted to work in the health care field in order to positively impact people’s lives.
Why did you choose Astera Health?
Astera Health has had a profound impact on my health care career. When I was a junior in high school, I participated in their summer internship program. This set me on the path to becoming a nurse and nurse practitioner. Astera Health has a deep passion for mentoring individuals and promoting health in the surrounding communities. I am excited to participate in this culture.
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?
My family and I enjoy outdoor activities including biking, fishing and snowshoeing.
What is an interesting, unique or fun thing that most people do not know about you?
In my senior year of college, I traveled to Chogoria, Kenya, Africa, with two nursing professors and 13 other nursing students. During the course of the month, we had clinical experiences in the community and the hospital. Besides the birth of our daughters, this adventure was the most life-changing event in my life. I was naive to how fortunate my life is and truly how one person can positively impact many individuals.
