What inspired you to get into medicine?
I love medicine, and I like to do what I can to help others. Working in the medical field provides the opportunity to do what I love and provide needed mental health services to people in rural communities. To say that there is a need for psychiatric and mental health services in rural communities would be an understatement; I look forward to improving access to care to rural Minnesota.
Why did you choose Astera Health?
Astera is committed to providing individualized care and is also committed to improving the health in our rural populations. The organization continues to push for growth and expansion; I am excited to be a part of this dynamic organization.
What do you like to do in your downtime?
Jamie and I love trail riding and horse camping whenever we can. We like to keep the ranch looking good, and there is always a fencing project or some sort of ranch-related task to complete. Ultimately, I am solar powered, so any chance I can get to be out walking the dogs, riding horses, or working in the yard, I take full advantage!
What is one interesting, unique or fun thing that most people may know about you?
My compassion to help whenever possible does not stop at humans. I once used my ball cap to move tadpoles from a water hole that was rapidly drying up to a larger water hole where they would have a better chance of survival. I break for bees, frogs, and snakes while cutting grass. I will move worms off of the concrete back to the sod after a rain when things are starting to dry up. I love almost all critters and do what I can to help them survive – with the exception being spiders!!
