Meet Our Team

Joel Beiswenger
President & CEO

Joel received his Bachelor in Business Administration degree from the University of North Dakota in 1986, and his Master of Health Care Administration degree from the University of Minnesota in 2010. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. He has been in the healthcare management field since 1986.

Joel has been a part of the Astera Health family since 1998. He served as Chief Financial Officer prior to his appointment as President/CEO in 2008.

Joel is married to Kim. Together they have three children and three grandsons. In his free time, Joel enjoys spending time biking, golfing, watching sports (especially hockey), traveling and searching for “great food spots” with Kim, and spending time with his children and the grandsons.

Kim Aagard
Chief Financial Officer

Kim has been with Astera Health since 1985 in a variety of roles including Revenue Cycle, Supply Chain Supervisor, NREMT in Emergency Medical Services, Accounting Manager, and Chief Financial Officer for the past 11 years. Kim is responsible for financial oversight of the organization as well as partnering with clinical leadership in the ever-evolving regulatory and reimbursement environment.

She graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She has been a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), serves as Treasurer on the West Central Economic Development Alliance Board of Directors, and is a member of Rotary International. 

Kim and her husband, Tom, have three children and six grandchildren. In her free time, Kim enjoys quilting, camping, spending time with grandbabies, gardening, and canning.

Shelly Gompf
Chief Operating Officer/VP of HR

Shelly brings over 27 years of experience as an executive leader and is a passionate advocate for rural healthcare, driven by a commitment to vision, strategy, and empowering people. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Concordia College, a Master’s from Ottawa University, and a Doctorate from Minnesota State University Moorhead. As a dedicated lifelong learner, she proudly holds certifications as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

In 2024, Shelly joined Astera Health, bringing a wealth of expertise from a decade as the Director and Professor of Health Leadership at Concordia College. Her prior leadership roles in rural healthcare include significant positions at Alomere Health, CHI, and Innovis Health, where she consistently drove innovative programs and initiatives.

Outside of her professional life, Shelly is married to Tracy, is a proud mother to four daughters, and is the loving owner of two dogs. Her personal interests include home improvement projects, singing, and community volunteering. When she’s not at work, you’ll find her making cherished memories with her family, enjoying the serenity of the lake, or exploring new travel destinations.

Tom Pint
Chief Nursing Officer

Tom has more than 26 years of nursing and progressive leadership experience in healthcare and nursing. He joined Astera Health in 2018 after serving in a variety of capacities with Hennepin County Medical Center and Allina Health.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a Master of Nursing Leadership and Management degree from Metropolitan State University. He is an active member of the Minnesota Organization of Leaders in Nursing serving as the district representative of their Board of Directors, American Organization of Nursing Leadership, and Rotary International.

Tom is married to his wife, Jenny, and has three adult children and a grandson, and enjoys spending time outdoors, boating, hunting, and relaxing by a bonfire.

Medley Shamp
Chief Ambulatory Officer

Medley has been with Astera Health for over 22 years in a variety of roles starting as a nurse’s aide, serving as an LPN in the hospital setting and orthopedic clinic. Most recently, Medley has served in a leadership role as Satellite Clinic Manager and Director of Clinic Operations, respectively.

Medley earned her nursing degrees at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Wadena and graduated with a master’s in nursing leadership and management.

Medley and her husband, Adam, have two adult children and enjoy spending time at their cabin, traveling and being outdoors four-wheeling, hiking, kayaking, and ice fishing.

Bobbi Adams, MD
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Adams is board-certified in Family Practice and, in addition to family medicine, provides obstetrical/maternity care. She has served as Chief Medical Officer since January 2022.

She graduated from medical school at the University of Minnesota in 1997 and completed her Residency at Sioux Falls Family Practice in 2000. She came to Astera Health upon completion of her Residency and worked in Primary Care, Inpatient as a Hospitalist, Obstetrics with cesarian section capabilities, and Emergency Department.

Dr. Adams enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, watching any of their activities, and just being together at home or the lake. She enjoys being with her extended family, cooking, and gardening.

Rachel Redig, MD
Chief of Staff

Dr. Redig is board certified in Emergency Medicine and practices in the Emergency Department at Astera Health.

She graduated medical school at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed Residency at Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She practiced medicine at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes and Brainerd and CHI St. Joseph’s hospital in Park Rapids before coming to Astera Health in 2017. Rachel’s leadership experience includes serving as the Vice-Chief of Staff for the past three years, Emergency Medicine Dyad Leader, and has served on several Medical Staff Committees.

Dr. Redig and her husband, Dan, have twins and enjoy watching them reach their milestones. They enjoy spending time with family and friends at the lake during the summer.
