Over the next year, the state of cancer care and infusion services at Astera Health will change forever. The new cancer center will change the lives of thousands of people from across Central Minnesota. People afflicted with cancer will no longer have to travel long distances to receive care. Having radiation and infusion services close to home is a game-changer. It’s important to remember that advanced technology alone doesn’t fight cancer—it takes incredible people to make a difference, and Astera Health has the best.

Insights from the Infusion Team

If you are unfamiliar, infusion services focus on intravenous (IV) therapy. This department is staffed by skilled medical professionals who administer medications, including cancer-fighting drugs, directly into the bloodstream. Recently, members of the Astera Health infusion services team shared their thoughts about the new Cancer Center. Here’s what they had to say:

Jessica, RN, BSN

“Infusion services are important because outpatient infusions allow patients to receive necessary IV medications such as blood transfusions, iron, antibiotics, and drugs for chronic conditions, including chemotherapy. We can do this without the need for the patient to be hospitalized, and locally, reducing drivetime for patients.”

“My favorite thing about the new cancer center is the fact that we will gain such a focus on oncology and hematology with a team dedicated solely to those diagnoses. I am really excited for our radiation patients—having daily treatments available locally instead of driving 70-plus miles will be a huge win for them.”

“You are entering into what may feel like a scary new world, but your oncology team is here for you. We’ll do whatever it takes to help you feel the best you can.”

Lyn, RN

“My favorite thing about the cancer center is that our patients can be treated closer to home.”

“The Infusion Center is vital because it allows patients to receive treatment locally without needing to be admitted to the hospital. This enables us to provide a variety of treatments close to home.”

Eliza, RN

“Infusion services are important because they keep patients out of the hospital while still receiving care like wound treatments and infusions. They can return home the same day, which is a big benefit.”

“My favorite thing about the new cancer center is the radiation suite. Patients won’t have to travel so far anymore.”
