In September 2024, Kim Beiswenger was named the new Foundation Lead for Astera Health. Previously, Kim served as a volunteer coordinator and as the community relations committee chair for the Foundation. Her deep community ties and constant drive to support others made her a perfect fit for Astera.
Additionally, Kim has a wealth of experience spanning decades. In past roles, Kim has supported healthcare organizations in clerical, financial, and nursing capacities. She understands the great difficulty that comes with providing top-notch care and how departments need to work together to create a cohesive care plan. She is excited to support that care with philanthropic projects going forward.
“It takes a village to raise a child but there comes a time when that child needs to come back and raise up that community.” – Kim Beiswenger
Changes on the horizon
As committee chair of the Community Relations Committee of the Foundation, Kim successfully revamped the longstanding Astera Health Golf Classic. Her changes created a fun event completely focused on raising funds for the hospital. In the future, with the Foundation Board and her committees, she plans to make small changes to several other events as well. She believes that the Astera Foundation belongs to the community, employees, and volunteers and welcomes feedback so that there is ownership in the events that raise funds and awareness of our projects.
Right now, the Foundation is focusing on raising funds for the new cancer center. So far in 2024, Kim has raised over $70,000 for the new cancer center. The cutting-edge facility will offer cancer care close to home, making the cancer journey for thousands just a little easier. This new facility will house incredible technology including radiation therapy. The cancer center is tentatively planned to open in 2025. Become a volunteer!
Kim Beiswenger will still be the primary lead for gathering and coordinating volunteers and she is always on the hunt for dedicated volunteers. Her efforts resulted in the recruitment of 26 active volunteers, revitalizing the program. Volunteers play a pivotal role in event management and even enhance patient care. Volunteers often work in the swing bed program at Astera Health. If you or someone you know is interested in giving back to the community, please visit asterahealth.org for more information on volunteering. There are always jobs and tasks available. Kim and her staff effectively work around school and work schedules. Students seeking academic credits or simply a way to experience working in a hospital environment are welcome to apply.
